Day of Percussion Overview

DAY OF PERCUSSION INFORMATION

Utah PAS Day Of Percussion
March 18, 2017

Location: Juan Diego Catholic High School, Draper

On behalf of the Utah Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, we would like to invite you and your students to be a part of the 2017 Day of Percussion Festival. This festival is the most comprehensive and collaborative percussion event in the state of Utah, and is intended to provide a wealth of information, experience and fun for all who attend. We hope that you will encourage your students to participate in this festival, and that you yourself will also find reasons to attend. We’ve made a special effort this year to provide opportunities for the non-percussionist band director as well as the seasoned professional.

ENSEMBLE REGISTRATION
SOLO REGISTRATION
VENDOR REGISTRATION (To open in February)

LARGE / CHAMBER ENSEMBLES

Perhaps the most effective way to involve your students in the Day of Percussion is to register your group for the ensemble competition. Groups from Jr. High and High School can participate as a Large Ensemble or Chamber Ensemble (8 or fewer members, no doubled parts and no conductor - High School categories only).  Prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each division.
SOLO COMPETITION
Students are also invited to participate as a soloist in the Solo Competition. This allows students to gain confidence and valuable feedback by performing for some of the best percussionists in the region. Prizes are awarded to Elementary, Jr. High, High School, and University winners in a variety of categories.

2017 SOLO CATEGORIES WILL BE:
• Snare Drum (Rudimental or Orchestral) • Keyboard (Xylophone, Vibraphone, Marimba)
• Marching Tenors Mock Auditions (Collegiate Only)
• Drumset Style Competition • Ultimate Drum-Off
• Timpani

GUEST ARTISTS / CLINICS

Each year the Utah Chapter brings in some of the biggest names in the business to offer back to back clinics throughout the day.  For non-percussionist directors, there will also be clinics presented by local percussion experts.  This year's clinicians are Pius Cheung, Paul Rennick and Kobie Watkins.

PERFORMANCES

In addition to the clinics, every hour will feature performances by our guest artists and local percussion ensembles alike. Some of the groups featured in past years include select groups from the Intermountain Percussion Association, 8 Hands Ensemble, the HYPE Percussion Ensemble, Samba Fogo, Drum Labs Steel Band and more. All clinics and performances are free and open to the public. This year's showcase concerts will be Westlake High School (Jeremy Megginson, Director), Park City High School (Bret Hughes, Director), and Farmington Junior High School (Heath Wolf, Director)

WINNERS' CONCERT / AWARDS CEREMONY

All attendees should be present for the closing event at the festival. The final concert will feature performances from various categories within the Solo and Ensemble Competition; in addition, guest performances featuring university ensembles, HYPE and guest artists from the day's events may occur.  To conclude the ceremony, we will recognize the State Champions in all categories from the day!
